Katherine Escalante

Katherine is a Yale Conservation Scholar, joining us this summer as a research intern focused on Central America. Katherine is an Eastern Connecticut State University student studying Philosophy and Political Science with a minor in pre-law. Born in El Salvador and raised in South Dakota, her experiences as a DACA recipient have driven her advocacy for immigrant communities. A second-year Yale Conservation Scholar, she integrates a passion for conservation with her commitment to Justice, Equity, Diversity, Sustainability, and Inclusion. Last summer, she led and supported youth-led and ocean justice-centered projects for The Ocean Project. Katherine intends to pursue a career in law and has most recently been honored as a Future of the Legal Profession 2024 scholar. She is incredibly excited to use her background and perspective to support Climate Refugees this summer and delve deep into the intersection of climate and migration.
