Stéphanie David

Stéphanie David is an independent consultant on international human rights law and advocacy, with a particular focus on counter-terrorism and human rights as well as in post-conflict situations. She previously served as FIDH Director of Middle East and North Africa, based in Cairo. Stéphanie has extensive field research and advocacy experience in the region. She led investigations, research and advocacy strategy for human rights protection in Morocco, Algeria, Libya, Tunisia, Egypt, Israel-OPT, Syria, Yemen and GCC countries, and she was engaged in high-level advocacy with national authorities as well as with the Arab League, African Union, UN and civil society organizations.
Later, as Head of UN Advocacy and Director of FIDH, New York, she was Representative to the United Nations at UNHQ-NY, where she worked closely with Security Council Member States and UN officials on the protection and promotion of human rights in crisis and conflict situations, peacekeeping and peace-building. She also developed a strong expertise on UN counter-terrorism architecture and policies, and has continuously engaged with all relevant UN bodies, governments, NGOs and media on counter-terrorism and human rights related issues. She is the author of many reports, books chapters and articles on international law and human rights.
She holds a Masters degree in International Law from La Sorbonne University in Paris, where she also pursued Ph.D studies in international law, focusing on the Palestinian Legal System for which she spent 3 years in the Occupied Palestinian Territory as an Associate researcher with the Institute of Law at Birzeit University
